Dear Madam,
The objective of writing this letter is to let you know me and my family´s disappointment regarding closing the local sports centre. The leisure centre is a huge part of our lives during the weekends.
Let me explain my concerns in more detail. We are habitants of a small town, with only a few shops and restaurants. The sports centre has an important impact on the local people. It is necessary, for not only me, but also my family and friends to be active during our spare time. Sunday afternoons are spent playing basketball there. The local community are in need of such an active place to stimulate both body and brain. Closing the one and only leisure centre will lead to health problems and depression of the local people. Furthermore, they might move somewhere else, causing more economy loss.
Thank you for your consideration,
Yours faithfully
Sara
This is a formal letter. It starts with a “Dear madam” which could’ve been Dear sir/ma’am. The opening statement of the letter is a large complicated string of words. It could be broken down to simpler and easy to understand sentences. the word “habitants” is unusual and can be replaced with a word / phrase that is simpler, like “we live in a small town.. “. “Sunday afternoons are spent playing basketball there” could be ” We spend our Sunday afternoons playing basketball there”. ..”Depression of local people” could be “depression among local people”.
The overall message is understood and conveyed. Think of expressing your problem statement in clear language. Avoid unusual usage of words like “habitants”. The approach to the letter is ok. I would rate this letter around 7 band.
