The world would be a poorer place without color

IELTS essay – writing task 2 Sample Essay

The world would be a poorer place without color.

To what extent do you agree with this statement?

A world without color would be gloomy and depressing. Human brain has the ability to see color therefore they can help distinguish objects and their properties. Colors are associated with feelings and emotions. Colors have the ability to make the world lively and interesting. Without color the world would not only be a boring place but also a dangerous place.

Imagine a world where people who learn visually cannot learn much because of a colorless world. There would be chaos on the roads as traffic signals become useless without the green and the red. Distinguishing color is a higher function of the brain. There are many animals that do live in a colorless world. Other senses would have to compensate for the loss of color in visuals. Children learn from colors that is why children’s books are colorful. The perception of joy and well being would be severely hampered. There could be one good outcome if there were no colors, there wouldn’t be discrimination based on color. Racism and color discrimination would be impossible.

Colorful world is infinitely richer. They have the capacity to infuse feelings and they can heal. Some colors can help relax people while others can arouse aggression. It is hard to imagine a world without colorful butterflies and the beauty of nature. Colorless world is unthinkable. There is always some color everywhere even if they are dark colors. They certainly make the world a much better place to live in. a world without color is a world without happiness.
