IELTS sample essay – model answer may score band 7 to 8.
Waste management and recycling is no more a choice. It has become a necessity. Millions of tons of garbage is dumped into landfills around the world. They are extremely toxic and can damage the environment with heavy metals and other toxic substances. The world needs to recycle everything that can be recycled. People are concerned about the environment and taking measures to reduce the damage through recycling.
The world today produces more harmful chemicals and non-biodegradable plastics than ever before. These harmful chemicals are useful in products but when they are disposed they turn into environmental hazards. Governments give incentives to recycle in many developed countries. People actually make money out of recycling. Although there is a lot of awareness in some developed parts of the world, recycling in developing countries is far from what is needed. In Brazil and India sugarcane waste is reused to produce electricity, many farmers and sugar mills provide the sugarcane waste. Individuals need to take recycling seriously along with government help. People should be educated about the process of recycling and its immense benefits.
It may be too late to have a relaxed approach to the protection of the environment. 7 billion individuals can make a huge difference. Everyone could use recycle bins and buy recycled products. They have to do this or the world could turn into a less habitable place. Recycling can prove profitable too. Electronic junk often contains precious metals like gold and platinum along with lead and other heavy metals, much of it can be reused. Environment and recycling was topic for intellectual debates but now it has become a necessity for the very survival of mankind.
