In the IELTS speaking test, candidates are interviewed for about 15 minutes. The speaking test or the IELTS interview has 3 parts to it. In the 1st few minutes the IELTS examiner will ask questions about the candidate. about something familiar. example questions in part 1 :
To score a higher band never answers with a yes or no, try to give relevant details and answer in 2 or three sentences. More importantly, enunciate well. Speak slowly and clearly.
Natural speech and relevant content in the correct tenses can go a long way in getting a higher score.
To sound natural while speaking in English, you may want to use these highly effective strategies.
1. Get your pronunciation right. Most IELTS candidates have a tough time sounding natural because of their mother tongue influence. In order to sound better, try to critically listen to your own speech. Here are some observations.
Native speakers of Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese have problems enunciating the last sound in most words.
example: house is “how..”, the ‘s’ sound goes missing. If a sentence is spoken with missing sounds then it would be very difficult to understand the speaker.
Native speakers of Hindi and other Indian languages generally make the sounds ‘t’ and’d’ pretty hard and the rhythm is different. They should analyze their speech and try to soften their ‘t’ and ‘d’ sounds.
These are just some examples. The big takeaway here is that you must speak clearly.
Do you use public transport?
yes I did. I use public transport (confusing)
yes I take the bus wherever I go (much better- clear)
