IELTS writing task 1 sample graph 1

In the IELTS academic writing task 1 you are expected to write 150 words using the data in the graph. You must write about important features, make comparisons where necessary and summarize.
The first sentence would be
This graph shows the number of tourist arrivals in Japan from Australia, UK, USA and South Africa .
Identify the key features.
1. Trends: See the changes in number of tourists arriving from different countries in different years and identify trends. 1. Upward trend 2. Downward trend 3. constant or no changes.
You can see that tourists from USA constantly increased whereas the number of tourists from other countries fluctuated.
2. Compare: Use comparatives and superlatives to make comparisons. For instance, the highest number of tourists coming to Japan were from the USA. The lowest number of tourists came from South Africa.
In 1990 there were higher number of tourists coming from Australia than from the UK however in 2010 the number of tourists from UK and Australia was nearly the same.
3. Summarize: observe the overall change. You can see that the total number of tourists going to Japan reduced.
